Every time I turn on the radio or TV or my computer, people who claim to have inside knowledge are making predictions about the future of the Mariners, our economy, the next election, our country, and even the whole world. So the words of Jesus in Mark 13 stand out in contrast.
Regarding the coming of the Lord—the event of the future that will affect every person on earth—Jesus said, “But of that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. Take heed, keep on the alert; for you do not know when the appointed time will come.” (Mark 13:32-33)
According to the Bible, the coming of the Lord will be the culmination of life as we know it and the beginning to a new, incredible level of existence. When it comes right down to it, the timing of the event isn’t the crucial thing—it’s whether we’re ready or not for it to happen.
