The Sealed Book

Our greatest help, comfort, and joy this side of heaven is the Holy Spirit. When He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. (John 16:13)
I’m awed by the unity among the Three-Person Godhead, for the Holy Spirit, like Jesus the Son, also proclaims the message of the Father.

Jesus says to the church at Laodicea, Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.” (Revelation 3:20)
As a toddler, I learned this promise as a song* and sang it for years in Sunday school. Now, I get to sing it with my grandkids around the piano on Sunday afternoons.

Revelation is full of drama. John saw One sitting on the throne who held a sealed book. A strong angel proclaimed with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the book and to break its seals?” But no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the book or to look into it. John began to weep greatly.
Poor John! Did something go wrong? How long did the tension build?
Then an elder said to John, “Stop weeping; behold, the Lion that is from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome so as to open the book and its seven seals.” (from Revelation 5:1-5)

Hallelujah!

*“Behold, Behold” (author unknown) is sung here by a little girl.

  1. Thank you for posting our video in your blog. It was such a nice surprise to see our little one here! May God be praised as He works through the littlest of us for His glory. 🙂

    1. Thank you, Angelica, for putting your daughter’s song “out there” for us to access. Her rendition was the clearest and most compelling one I could find. May God be praised!
