The first time I remember eating candy was at Christmas time at my grandmother’s house.   She’d put little dishes of peanut brittle, two kinds of fudge (chocolate and maple walnut), and divinity, all homemade, on the dining room table.  We were allowed to sample some any time we wanted, which was like heaven to me, a scrawny little six- or seven-year-old.  

I made up my mind that when I grew up, I would always have little candy dishes around with my favorite candy.
